Sketches by Wilf Burton April 2012
The beginnings of a possible design for Warren Cottage....very nice!
Guy and I have moved onto the Chiltern hills in Buckinghamshire, and plan to stay a while. This blog is a way of recording our time whilst we're there.

Welsh Oak Frame ? Jan 2009
Back in Jan 2009 we visited Welsh Oak Frame in Wales and here is a design we liked!
"Wilf Burton" visits Warren Cottage Feb 2012
Wilf Burton came to Warren Cottage Sunday March 4th 2012, he's an architect.
We first met him during a meeting with "Westwind" in Feb 2012, the company who make OAK framed buildings. Rupert who owns Westwind suggested that Wilf could help us come up with a design for Warren Cottage
The weather wasn't good for a site visit, strong winds and horizontal rain, but he battled with the elements and made the drive up from Bristol on a "SUNDAY!" We were really chuffed to see him and keen to hear/see any ideas he had to design a house we could afford to build out of oak!

February 2009 - Road building !!!
![]() |
Feb 2009, I was so happy, track re-surfacing had commenced 12hr days starting and finishing in the dark, loved it! |
Track dug out, layer of white Teram, Layer of crushed concrete, then layer of lovely black road planings |
Guy does all the digging and spreading of concrete and planings |
White membrane called Teram stops the concrete being driven down into the soft mix of soil and chalk |
At the bottom of the Byway it's looking like major roadworks are taking place...it's hard to believe it's just GUY and ME!! |

It was 700m of Byway we had to dig out and remove soil from! |
